I have read more than a few headlines over the last couple of days
stating how George Bush has snubbed Obama by choosing not to attend the
ceremony in New York and I just don’t see what the big deal is. I think if
anyone is being snubbed, its the people that are attending the ceremony that
lost loved ones, not the President. George Bush stated that he did not want to
attend as he would like to continue to stay out of the spot light. I have no
problem with this at all, seeing how he made the same statement on Oprah months
ago. In fact he stated it in a way that made me truly respect his stand on it. His
point was that the position of the President has enough responsibilities
already without having some former President sticking his nose in every time he
turned around. He also said that he respected President Obama too much to
always be in the way or trying stay in the spotlight sharing the stage every
chance he got. I respected that a lot.
I have heard people trying to make Bush not showing up in New York
a racial issue. Oh here we go again!! Every time something is done that many
don’t agree with that happens to involve people of different races, you have
your group that makes it a racial issue or injustice. The spirit of Kanye West
rides again!! I’m sorry, but everything is not a racial issue. Every time
someone says something negative to say about President Obama, its not always because
of race. Many people had negative things to say about President Bush, not once
did I hear anyone say it was because of race, so stop flipping the script and
being hypocritical! We are really going to have to get past these things
people.
Now I’m no fool. I do know that race does play a factor in many
things in this country, and it happens at all levels. I am a Black male living
in the south, so I think I am pretty qualified to speak on that. But again,
everything is not driven by race, so we gotta stop using that as an excuse
every time something is done we may not like. If the President had that
mentality, he would not have reached the level of President.
